Wonderful Wattles (Acacia) are a “Down Under” classic for Winter Colour. The often fragrant, glorious yellow blooms brightening even the most grey and dreary days from Late Autumn throughout Winter and into the first days of Early Summer. But they really come into their own during the dead of Winter when there is so little else in flower. These shrubs to small trees often create great glowing golden mounds of sunny colour which are treasured by almost all who grow them or have ever seen them in the Australian bush.
Wattle flowers are usually a collection of many very tiny flowers with fine, soft petals and stamens grouped in clusters. These sometimes assume a finger-like shape, occasionally separate along the stems but classically are in round small globes like little powder-puffs which are clustered together in sometimes loose or many times branching and dense heads of flowers.
